Birmingham Conservatoire is a music college of international stature which
educates and trains students to the highest professional standards in solo
performance, composition, chamber music, early music, orchestral playing,
jazz, North Indian classical music and teaching. Practical work is supported
by a sound theoretical and historical programme, and students are encouraged
to adopt a broad and enquiring approach to their studies.
A variety of courses are taught at Birmingham Conservatoire: The Bachelor of
Music (Honours) degree course has been designed for the student of Western
classical music who seeks an exciting and challenging programme of practical
study which is supported by academic work approached in a stimulating and
innovative way; The Postgraduate Diploma in Music (PGDip) and Master of Arts
in Music (MA) can be studied Full-time in 1 year or Part-time over 2 years
and are designed for recent graduates, or for mature students who are
equipped for postgraduate study. The courses provide both further experience
as preparation for the Conservatoire's Diploma in Professional Studies or
research degrees, and suitable postgraduate qualifications for career
purposes.
Birmingham Conservatoire's Commitment to Early Music takes the form of
giving all under-graduates and post-graduates the opportunity to study with
one of the Conservatoire's many early music specialists. A large collection
of 16th, 17th and 18th century instruments - wind, strings, brass and
keyboard - is available for students' use.
